Therapy with Sarah

I am Sarah Buxton. I am an experienced and qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor. I offer short and long term therapy, according to individual need and I work with a wide variety of presenting issues.

Who is Therapy for?

Anyone who is experiencing emotional and mental distress.

Life is difficult at times even for the most fortunate.

I frequently meet with clients who are experiencing anxiety or some sort of depression. These are commonly used terms which mean many different things and each person’s experience is unique.

I practice gestalt therapy, which is led by you. Talking is a big part of what we do but we can also be creative to increase awareness (usually awareness of how and where you feel stuck).  I will work with whatever you bring. I won’t tell you what to do. I won’t judge you. I really understand that life is difficult at times.

Perhaps you are anxious and are overthinking everything. You may be experiencing loss.  Or suffering guilt because you can’t control your anger.  Or you feel stuck or hopeless and are desperate for a good night’s sleep.   When you are suffering or struggling with difficult emotions, it can make such a difference to know you have some support.  I will support you to work through your difficult thoughts and feelings, at a pace that suits you, in order to bring about positive change.

A Guided Conversation

I meet a client for an initial session which gives us the chance to see each other, the client to talk about what brings them and myself to get an idea of how I might expect to be able to help. If this meeting is satisfactory to both we agree to continue. We may also agree to review after a few sessions to check that the work is being useful.

Initially I will work on building a trusted relationship with you to provide a safe, non-judgemental space where you can be yourself and talk freely.

Ending usually depends on the client feeling they have completed what they came to do.

I have a comfortable workroom which provides a private and supportive environment.

The main medium I use is talking, a conversation which I guide in order to establish and develop rapport, moving into client self exploration. I see psychotherapy as a co-operative endeavour for the benefit of the client.

I work with the whole person and understand any particular symptom as the way a client attempts to communicate and express something important.

I use imagery, dreams, sand, art, movement as mediums of expression and I pay attention to body, breathing and voice.
